Leaders: How to Shore up Your Team

Leaders: How to Shore up Your Team

Where is your team going? How will they get there? Do you have the right team?

When was the last time you reconnected with your vision and strategy? Where are you going? How will you get there? Do you still have the right team in place to ensure success?

Consider these guidelines to shore up your team to support your strategy:

  1. REFRESH YOUR DIRECTION. Remind yourself and refresh on where your organization is going. Re-establish your vision. Revisit your values. Clarify the goals for the year ahead and the strategy to achieve them. Communicate these things and inspire people with renewed clarity.

  2. ASSESS YOUR TEAM. What functions are needed to carry out your vision and strategy? Do you have the right people occupying those roles? Assess the strengths and areas for improvement of your team. Is there an opportunity for anyone on the team to advance to the next level?

  3. INVEST IN EACH INDIVIDUAL. Consider each employee on your team objectively. Where do they fit into your goals and strategy? What are the success metrics for each employee? Are they on track to develop and expand their responsibilities? What are you doing to retain high performers? How are you dealing with low performers?

  4. THINK BIG PICTURE. How will you structure your team? If you move someone, what impact will it have on the rest of the team? Think through any other roles that should be shuffled to support the success of the team as a whole. Provide resources to set the whole team up for success.

By thinking through this framework, you and your team will be in a strong position to achieve your vision and fulfill your potential.
